Hervé Van de Meulebroeke commence à faire des polaroids et est attiré par les « Moeres
», marais près de Saint-Omer
Il prend des photos sous l’eau, dont il n’a pas un contrôle
total. Il met ses résultats inattendus et fascinants en relation avec la première
photographie, celle d’ Henry Fox Talbot de 1839. Cet univers inconnu semble faire partie
d’un monde premier, d’une grande beauté de mouvement et de couleur.

Hervé Van De Meulebroeke is based in Lambersart, a suburb of Lille (Fr) and has exhibited
widelt in northern France. According to the artist, he uses photography to ‘unrealise’ the
real world. Thanks to the photographic process Van De Meulebroeke transforms a plant, a
landscape or a coffee cup into a starnge and poetic object. However, these images are not
an abstraction but inform about reality in an alternative way. Keeping a distance from the
subject, through the use of various technical and aesthetic devices, entails a further
reading that Van De Meulebroeke hopes is different from the real world. For him,
photography cannot be objective.
